Interior painting across Queens
Interior painting and wall repair across Queens, where three kinds of building need three different jobs.
In building stock as mixed as Queens, painting means very different work from one address to the next.
Three walls, three jobs
Postwar block walls. Painted concrete or block, often with a thin skim over it that has started to let go. Sound areas take paint straight. Failed areas have to come back and be re skimmed, and telling one from the other is done by hand rather than by eye.
Two family trim. Older houses here carry deep original casings and baseboards with decades of coats on them. Where the profile has closed up it is taken back far enough to return the detail, which is slower and is most of what makes the finish look intentional.
Co op make good. Very often the wall has already been patched twice by two different people after a leak from above. Painting over that buys a year. We open it, establish that whatever caused it has stopped, and repair it properly before anything goes on top.
Not sure whether the wall needs repair before paint? We can tell you.
Call to talk through the roomsContainment in an occupied building
Sanding makes fine dust that travels into a shared hallway, and in a co op that is a complaint waiting to happen. We seal the work area, protect the route in and out, and clean the common parts at the end of each day.
Questions people ask
Can you paint one room at a time?
Yes, and in an occupied apartment it is usually the sensible way. It costs a little more in setup and it lets you keep living normally, which for most households is the better trade.
Do you fix the wall before painting it?
Where it needs it, and we price that separately so you can see it. Painting over a wall that needs repair is cheaper on the day and more expensive within the year.
